Our Christian Meditation Group meets in the Church each Monday evening from 6.00pm til 7.00pm, following Evening Prayer (except on Public Holidays). The hour begins with an introduction to this practice of wordless, imageless prayer which is based on ancient Christian ways of being attentive to God in silence. Contemplative prayer seeks to be with God in a stillness beyond thought and word. We use a prayer word or ‘mantra’ to help focus our attention and to put aside the mind’s distractions during the period of meditation. Rather than speaking to God, we seek to listen and simply ‘be’ in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Each session includes a recorded teaching from one of the leaders of The World Community for Christian Meditation on an aspect of the spiritual journey. This is followed by 25 minutes of silence. On the final Monday of each month, we adjourn to a nearby bistro for dinner and conversation. Newcomers are always welcome.
Please note that Christian Meditation does not meet on Public Holidays, or on Feast Days (where a 6pm Solemn High Mass is celebrated).
‘May this silence be a power to open the hearts of men and women to the vision of God, and so to each other, in love and peace, justice and human dignity. May the beauty of the Divine Life fill the hearts of all who pray here with joyful hope …’(Fr Laurence Freeman OSB, Director of the World Community for Christian Meditation)
